Help Me Grow Quality Improvement (QI)/Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Project

Developmental Surveillance, Screening and Linking Children to Services:
The Help Me Grow® System

Practice Quality Improvement
The Help Me Grow National Center collaborates with Connecticut Children’s Practice Quality Improvement Program, and Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut to offer a practice-based, continuous quality improvement (CQI) project that is relevant to HMG affiliates and those utilizing the Help Me Grow® System. This project may be an excellent opportunity for those who:

  • want to incorporate CQI into their everyday culture.
  • need to do QI work for NCQA PCMH recognition.
  • need MOC Part 4 credit.

Maintenance of Certification
The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) sets MOC requirements that must be met for pediatricians to be considered certified by the ABP.  The ABP recognizes the efforts of board certified pediatricians who imbed QI in their day-to-day practice of medicine.

MOC consists of four primary parts:
Part 1: Evidence of professional standing
Part 2: Evidence of lifelong learning and self-assessment
Part 3: Evidence of cognitive expertise
Part 4: Evidence of satisfactory performance in practice

The Help Me Grow QI/MOC project offers 25 credits towards Part 4. Participants who meet the requirements are able to receive both MOC and CME credits if they wish.

In order to receive credits, each participant:

  • must complete all project requirements
  • must complete the project within their current MOC cycle.
  • must be an ABP diplomate. The project is not approved to offer MOC credit for any other boards, for example, family medicine doctors are not eligible for MOC credit. Non-board certified pediatricians cannot receive MOC credit because they do not have certification to maintain.

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is approved by the ABP as an MOC Part 4 Portfolio Sponsor. Connecticut Children’s Practice Quality Improvement Program manages the portfolio, which contains the Help Me Grow QI/MOC project.

Additional Information
Additional information about ABP MOC is available on the ABP Web site at www.abp.org. Click on the Maintenance of Certification tab at the top of the page.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
CME consists of educational activities which are meant to maintain, develop, or enhance a physician’s knowledge, skills and professional performance and relationships. These credits are often important to physicians because in some states physicians are required to have a specified number of CME credits annually to maintain their medical licenses. Similarly, most hospitals require a specified number of CME credits for their physicians to remain credentialed to see patients. Connecticut Children’s Practice Quality Improvement Program supports physicians in obtaining Performance Improvement CME credit: AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

The Help Me Grow QI/MOC project is approved to offer 12 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Participants who meet the requirements are able to receive both CME and MOC credits if they wish.
